Idol Thoughts 5/2

Here are my notes on last night's performance more or less as I wrote
them while watching. Two songs each tonight, one from the year they
were born, and one on the current charts. This top five is VERY
strong, probably the best top 5 theyâve ever had. Elliot: He does a
George Benson song from 1982, âOn Broadway.â He sounds a little out of
breath. Heâs got a lovely voice but I donât like what heâs doing with
   this song. That was okay.

Randy says it started rough. Paula says the ending was great. Simon
said it wasnât his best performance and a bit disjointed. (Heâs
right.) Paris: Sheâs doing Princeâs âKiss?â From 1988? Hrrrm! Holy
cow, that was GREAT! Great song Paris!

Randy thought it was ânice.â Paula says the whole country knows she
can sing. Simon says âscreechy and annoying.â Chris: Doing a song from
1979. Wanted Man? Who did this song? Was it Styx? Very competent
performance though. This guyâs going places no matter who wins.

Randy says âwe got a real hot one tonight.â Paula says outstanding.
Simon says it was a million times better than the first two
performances tonight. Katherine: Doing a song from 1984. A Genesis
tune? Or is it Phil Collins? Beginning was horrible. Oh man, this is
just not good. Seems off-kilter and slightly off-key. That was
   horrible.

Randy says she looks amazing but the key was off. âOkay at the end.â
Paula also says sheâs stunning looking but not her favorite
performance. Simon says it was a mess and the song ran away from her.
Elliot: âPlay That Funky Music White Boyâ by Wild Cherry? Haaa! This
is awesome! Ha! He falls on the ground! Too funny!

Randy found it a little wild. Paula says itâs the authentic Taylor.
Simon says it was a horrible wedding performance. Elliot again: Donât
know this song. Iâm totally out of touch with whatâs on the charts
these days. I probably wonât recognize any of these songs. But that
   was very nice.

Randy says he liked seeing the tender side of Elliot. Paula is
cackling like sheâs drunk, but thought it was great. Simon says it
wasnât the smartest lyric for him. Paris again: âBe Without You.â
Oooh, sheâs a little warbly and sounds out of breath again. Ooh, but
sheâs hitting cruising altitude in the middle. Spectacular ending. She
may have just saved herself for another week.

Randy says that was a big risk singing Mary Blige. Paula thought she
could have done more with it. Simon actually says he really liked it.
Chris again: âI Dare You.â Oh, heâs just rocking this out. Holy crap
he really could win this thing. He knocked that out of the park.

Randy says he wasnât sure he loved it. Paula says it wasnât her
favorite. Simon says his voice was going. I donât know what they
heard, I thought that was awesome. Katherine again: âBlack Horse And
The Cherry Tree.â Wow. This is kind of hot. I think she may have just
saved herselfâand that Paris is in trouble. Wow, that was HOT!

Randy says that was more like the Kat he grew to love. Paula loved the
choreography. Simon preferred it to the first song. Taylor again: Heâs
doing âSomething?â How awesome! I didnât know that was currently on
the charts. Almost seems like cheating but who cares? That was pretty
   cool.

Randy says he liked the Beatles vibe. Paula said that was daring.
Simon says it was clever and that itâs very easy to forget that heâs a
good singer despite his âbarminess,â which I assume means eccentric.

   ---

Winner: Growing hard to pick but Iâll say Taylor.

   Predictions:

   Bottom two: Katherine and Paris

Going home: Katherine, mostly because she had only one good song,
everybody else had two good ones.
