[1]CVF carrier Strategypage has a neat look at the new highly
automated aircraft carriers [2]being developed jointly by France and
the UK and expected to go into service in the middle of the next
decade. The goal is to greatly reduce the crew needed to operate the
cariers while still greatly increasing their effectiveness and
   carrying capacity.

   Wikipedia has [3]more detail.

I note that the U.S. Navy has [4]similar plans for radically more
advanced carriers with similar design philosophy: using more tech to
reduce the required crew compliment. Which, as it turns out, tends to
be the most expensive part of operating an aircraft carrier. (Well why
wouldn't it be? It's the most expensive part of most business ventures
   too.)

It's really interesting to me how few people realize the importance of
the aircraft carrier in modern geopolitics, and just how important
   these amazing ships are.
