The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1142905235.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got the Iraqi parliament, the third anniversary of the invasion,
and much, much more.
[1]24 Step to Liberty reports on the first, extremely brief session of
the Iraqi parliament. More from [2]Iraq the Model
[3]Riverbend reflects on the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq
or, as she puts it, "the end of Iraq=E2s independence". [4]Freedom of
Mind posts a lament. [5]Hammorabi isn't sad that Saddam isn't in
charge anymore. [6]Truth About Iraqis is scathing. [7]Treasure of
Baghdad finds that the day of liberation remains elusive. Mohammed of
[8]Iraq the Model is more optimistic:
Before the liberation we were suffering and we had no hope, now we
are also suffering but we have hope and I see this hope even in the
words of those that are cynical about the outcome of the political
process; who say they hope things will be better in four years or
eight years=E2=A6 When Saddam was here we didn't have any hope and we
could expect nothing good from a dead regime that cared only about
its absolute existence.
I avoid linking to ex-patriate Iraqi bloggers in the Carnival but
[9]this post on the anniversary from new blogger Eye Raki is too good
to pass up. The incredibly articulate Dr. Hanoudi of [10]The Hanoudi
Letter's reflection goes all the way back to World War I.
Zeyad of [11]Healing Iraq has a series of pictures from "Sadr City" in
Baghdad.
Alaa, [12]The Mesopotamian (whom I think of as the Iraqi Wretchard),
analyzes the strategic situation in Iraq, focussing on what's worked
and what hasn't. He remains optimistic:
Finally I would like to say to all our friends in the West and
America in particular, this: have no fear; the battle is far from
being lost. The land of Sumeria, Akad, Babylon, Ur, Nimrod and
Ashur will never die. The land where the Old Testament was written
and the Aramaic of Jesus Christ was spoken cannot become extinct.
The Capital of Harun Al-Rashid and the Arabian nights cannot die.
Land of Abraham and the prophets, Mesopotamia is indestructible.
Seven thousand years of turbulent history attest to this. Only this
land will remain tortured and cannot rest or calm down until it
achieves greatness again. This is a germ that has been genetic in
this mystic land from the beginning of history. This same history
will credit the U.S.A. in years to come to have been the one to
arouse this long dormant genie.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [13]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
