The Next Two Things That Won't Be Victory

   While our major goals of removing Saddam's regime and establishing
   democracy (both of which were widely considered to be extremely
   difficult challenges, if not outright impossibilities) have been
   achieved, few are willing to call this victory.
   In 2006, it appear Iraqis will take over the bulk of security
   operations. This will not be called victory either.
   In 2007 - 2008, it appears likely the bulk of our forces will return
   home, a noble, even heroic task behind them. This will not only not be
   considered victory by the majority of the press, it will be called
   retreat. I predict even straight news stories will report it as bowing
   to political/insurgent pressure, rather than leaving after
   accomplishing our goals.
   Or maybe I'm overly pessimistic. What do you think?
