Feminist Rant

Not Exactly Rocket Science has a [1]scathing perspective on feminism
   from a woman of accomplishment.

I gave up on trying to talk to feminists when I realized that they
talk in circles. If you try to criticize a specific feminist attitude
or assertion, they accuse you of being anti-woman. If you try to
specify and say, "okay, you're right, it's just the feminists who say
X or Y that I take issue with," they get angry and say you're smearing
feminism itself. If you point to women who consider themselves
feminists (like Christina Hoff Sommers) but who dissent from the
standard feminist party line on certain issues, they say those who
agree with her aren't real feminists. Why? Because they criticize
other feminists. So apparently there is no one feminism, but if you
criticize any feminist you're attacking all feminists and, by
   extension, all women.

Twisted logic? You bet. Fortunately, what I find is that most young
women these days recognize all this.

Although I still note with some mild annoyance that apparently it's
okay to loudly proclaim for "a woman's right to choose," and evil and
wicked and oppressive to say that her right to choose might have
limits, that she should use birth control and be more prudent... but
if [2]a man doesn't want to be held fiscally and socially responsible
for a woman's choice for 18 years, he's an evil scumbag who should
keep it in his pants and use birth control and if he doesn't like it
too bad. He made his "choice" when he chose sex. She gets her choice
well after the fact, and gets to hold him responsible for her choice
whether he likes it or not.

If we honestly lived in a fair society, then so long as we have a
legal "woman's right to choose," then we should have a man's right to
choose too: a woman who finds herself pregnant should have the right
to approach a man and ask him what he wants to do. He should be
expected to either give her half the abortion expenses, or, propose a
marriage and/or child support arrangement. After he makes his offer,
she goes off and makes her final choice.

Ah, but that would be treating men and women as equal adults capable
of making adult choices. And we can't have that. Not according to
"feminist" logic, which is usually really about demonizing men and not
   much else.

And don't even get me started on domestic violence, where men are so
routinely demonized and women so frequently let off the hook, women
relegated to the role of helpless subjugated victims and men to that
   of brutish thugs....
