The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1141745026.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got alternative Academy Awards, the political process in Iraq,
the anniversary of an uprising, and much, much more.
[1]24 Steps to Liberty posts on the inside wrangling of Iraqi
politicians and notes that although armies may overthrow governments
quickly changing people's hearts is a much more difficult task. I pass
on the following quotation without comment:
Saddam Hussein came into power in the early 1970s as a vice
president and stayed in power until the Iraqis allowed the United
States Army to enter Iraq and help them to topple Hussein and his
regime.
[2]Riverbend bestows her own Academy Awards. Here are her candidates
for Best Picture:
=E2OIF: The War on Terror=E2 starring George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and
Condi Rice and others. A riveting drama set in Iraq. Rated =E2G=E2 for
=E2Gullibility=E2 and =E2R=E2 for =E2Republican=E2.
=E2Disappearing Act=E2 starring Ahmed Al Chalabi, Adnan Al Pachachi,
and Ghazi Al Yawir.
=E2Free Iraqi Elections=E2- A black comedy based on the farfetched
theory of free elections under foreign occupation starring Abdul
Aziz Al Hakeem, Ibraheim Al-Jaffari and Muqtada Al Sadr.
=E2Kangaroo Court=E2 - starring Saddam Hussein, Barazan Hassen, and
various judges, prosecutors and lawyers.
Mama of [3]Emotions... explains why we haven't heard from her in some
time and puts in her two cents on the terrorist attack on the shrine
in Samarra.
Ali of [4]A Free Iraqi writes on the enemies of change there. There
are many of them and who the most significant enemy is changes over
time.
[5]From Me With Love! posts several cartoons about avian flu that are
(mostly) pretty amusing.
[6]Hammorabi has been posting up a storm lately, publishing nearly
daily on the ongoing violence against Shi'a Arabs, the failure of
polticians to form a government, the capture of the terrorist
responsible for the beheading of the Japanese contractor last year,
and lots more. In [7]this post he complains about the shortcomings of
the political process in Iraq.
Zeyad of [8]Healing Iraq writes about the reporter Atwar Bahjat,
murdered by terrorists, and declaims: "It's time we stop glorifying
murderers and terrorists."
Violence strikes close to home for Mohammed of [9]Iraq the Model.
Literally, as in a mortar striking the house of a neighbor's.
[10]Treasure of Baghdad reminds us that the Shi'a uprising in the
south of Iraq in the aftermath of Gulf War I began 15 years ago on
Sunday.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [11]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
