   Publius makes a strong case that it was [1]forces loyal to Al-Sadr,
   who is friendly with the Iranian regime, as the most likely culprit.
   That's more likely, especially given how transparently manipulative
   the man is. I find it hard to believe the Iranians would hatch the
   plot, but I've no doubt they'd look the other way.

   The funny thing is, the entire incident appears to have weakened his
   hand, not strengthened it. Probably because it's so obvious no
   prominent Sunni group would do this--they're too weak and have too
   much to lose--and because a lot of Shia who voted for Al-Sadr's party
   probably aren't as hard-line as he is (not unusual, that).
