The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1150808866.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got Forward Together, captured GI's, blossoming fruit, and much,
much more.
[1]Afghan Warrior criticizes the Afghan government's plan to recruit
tribal militias to boost security.
[2]Baghdad Connect continues to be very intriguing with recent posts
on the disinformation campaign in Iraq (which it attributes to
communists and Ba'athists), problems for Iraqis in obtaining tourist
visas in Kuwait, and more. Keep scrolling.
Mama of [3]Emotions... makes a good point: Saddam and his henchmen are
faring better in captivity than ordinary Iraqis are at large.
[4]Imad Khadduri reports on the info making the rounds on the two
American soldiers missing after a checkpoint attack. Included are the
terms for release which include release of all female Iraqi prisoners
from American prisons, release of religious leaders, and delivery of
Zarqawi's body to his family. [5]CNN is now reporting that the Iraqi
Defense Ministry has told them that the two soldiers have been found
dead. [6]Associated Press is reporting the the U. S. military has
confirmed the story. ABC News is reporting that the two soldiers had
been tortured and beheaded. So, presumably, the negotiation info is
bogus.
[7]Freedom of Mind reacts to the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi:
t is not the man whom I hate, itâs the thought that killing
innocent people is O.K., itâs the thought that doing some
grotesque, repugnant, and unholy things like beheading people,
innocent people I might add, and be happy about doing it, this
thought just sickens me. The thought that they think that god had
ordered them to do it, the way they do there things and say the
name of god make want to throw up, the thought that someone wears a
explosive belt and kills himself with several other people, whom
only fault was being there at the wrong time, shopping at local
market to go home and feed their children. The thought that
children are considered targets, and children are being killed like
there is nothing to it, and believing that god is O.K. with killing
children. The thought that every non Muslim is a target, even if he
or she dedicated his or her life to help other people, regardless
of their religion, some one like Margaret Hassan. The thought that
they can say who is going to heaven and who is going to hell, that
thought that they can judge people, the thought that they can kill
anyone who has so much as a different opinion, that thought that
they think they have the power to condemn people, the thought that
they could say who lives and who dies.
Zeyad of [8]Healing Iraq has left Iraq, presumably on his way to the
United States, but has found time to comment on the reaction of people
in Jordan to Zarqawi's death:
Amman is the same as I left it last time. An ever expanding
bustling city that gives the false impression of modernity and a
progressive, enlightened society. Yet, every Jordanian I spoke to
thinks that Zarqawi is a martyr. One taxi driver frankly told me
that one should not rejoice over Zarqawi's death, for one simple
reason: Americans and Iraqis are happy about it.
Iraq the Model has posted extensively on Operation Forward Together,
the joint Iraqi-American operation to secure Baghad. The [9]first
installment is here. Updates are [10]here and [11]here. Alaa of
[12]The Mesopotamian also comments on the operation--he's been urging
something of the sort for almost three years.
[13]Iraqi Screen says that there is an organized plan by the Iranian
secret service to assassinate Iraqi pilots who participated in the
Iran-Iraq War.
[14]Treasure of Baghdad posts on his trip to Iraqi Kurdistan. Maybe
better than taking a vacation yourself.
Fatima of [15]Thoughts from Baghdad posts beautiful pictures of the
blossoming fruit in her husband's grandparents' garden in Adhamiyah.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [16]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
