the smearing of Howard Dean

This is one of those posts where I pretty much go against the grain
here at Dean's World, but I am unapologetic about my perspectives,
especially since I discovered Howard Dean in 2002 long before he was a
mote in Karl Rove's eye. And I've taken plenty of shots at HD in his
time, too - I was never a blind booster of his. I don't expect
politicians to be angels, I give them latitude to mouth off once in a
while, and I think of them as human beings.

And Howard Dean was a good human being, a decent candidate, a moderate
non-ideological man who would have made a great executive.

I just wanted to put [1]this essay by Glenn Greenwald out there:

One of the most profoundly dishonest media distortions over the
last decade was the almost instantaneous transformation of Howard
Dean from what he really is and has long been â a non-ideological,
sensible, solidly mainstream, and highly rational medical doctor,
Vermont Governor and American citizen whose politics are decidedly
moderate and even, with regard to many issues (such as statesâ
rights, government spending, gun control, and many others), quite
conservative â into a freakish cartoon whose insanity and emotional
instability are matched only by his rabid affection for socialism
and Islamic terrorism. That patently false illusion persists today
and will likely never be expunged from many minds.

I don't really expect that most people with an opnion of Howard Dean
will evne bother to click throuhg and read the rest of GG's argument.
But the simple truth is that Howard Dean was a fiscal conservative, a
social moderate, a believer in liberty and the democratic process, and
a foreign policy hawk. And even people like myself, who [2]Kossacks
revile as a rightwinut troll, still respect Howard Dean to this day.
And always will. (Occassional foot in mouth disease aside).
