The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1149601090.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got a rumor, propaganda, violence, a generator, purple and
yellow ribbons, and much, much more.
[1]Afghan Lord and [2]Afghan Warrior present somewhat different takes
on the rioting that followed a traffic accident with fatalities caused
by a Coalition vehicle.
[3]Riverbend complains about the heat, the lack of electricity, the
violence, the new Iraqi government, and the Americans.
[4]Baghdad Connect notes that the cost of the bodyguards for the
members of the Iraqi parliament will run to nearly $1.5 Billions US
per year.
[5]Roads to Iraq has a report on the cases of abuse of civilians in
Iraq and Afghanistan by the U. S. forces there, concentrating on the
[6]incident at Ishaqi. [7]Truth About Iraqis has more on the incident
and the investigation.
More enemy propaganda from [8]Imad Khadduri. I think it's important to
take a look at these translations from Arabic language Islam Memo to
get some understanding of what we're up against even without incidents
like those at Haditha (whatever happened there).
The big news in the Iraqi blogosphere is the terrible security
situation there and the large numbers of Iraqis being killed.
[9]Hammorabi pens a lengthy rant on the declining security situation.
His prescription: take off the gloves!
We said before and will repeat here again, that the terrorists and
the criminals know only one thing which is force. The same should
be used against them. The responsibility of the security should be
fully given to the Iraqis and a full scale force should be used to
crush the criminals and terrorists. No mercy or negotiation but
only for those who surrender without conditions and reveal full
information about their groups.
Punishment should be immediate and on the hands of the Iraqi
security forces without hindering by the MNF. It has been mentioned
before that when the Iraqi forces are wanted to interfere and deter
the terrorists in certain areas the MNF may tighten the hands of
the Iraqi forces and prevent them from interfering and crushing the
thugs.
Zeyad of [10]Healing Iraq reports that radical Islamists have complete
or near-complete control of 8 Baghdad districts (of 120). [11]Ibn
Al-Rafidain has a first-hand report of being detained by the Iraqi
authorities from a neighbor who was detained for a week. I'm trying to
figure out how to reconcile the position suggested by Ibn
Al-Rafidain's post, which suggests that the authorities are cracking
down too hard with that of Hammorabi, which suggests they aren't
cracking down nearly enough. [12]Iraqi Screen is beginning to be
nostalgic for the car bombs. [13]Salam Pax posts on the difficulty of
producing a video blog due to the tenseness of the situation.
Omar of [14]Iraq the Model reports on a rumor that's making the rounds
there: the U. S. is planning for a military coup in Iraq.
Fatima of [15]Thoughts from Baghdad has a bit of good news: the sound
you hear in the video on her blog is her newly-repaired generator.
Miriam of [16]Pearls of Iraq has officially kicked off her "Purple and
Yellow Campaign".
[purpleyellow.jpg]
She's started a new blog for it: [17]Iraq Purple and Yellow Ribbon
Campaign.
The push for purple for the Iraqis, representing freedom is not
new. There have been other campaigns in short spurts supporting the
movement. We need continuous long term support and outreach.
Therefore, I support the Purple and Yellow Ribbon campaign. I call
on bloggers, media and people across the globe to use these colors
to show support to Iraq and to use virtual âPurple and Yellow
Ribbonâ jpeg as a symbol on the internet and other places.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [18]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
