U.S. Military Chief Pledges Thorough Haditha Probe

[1]America's top military officer today said that the push for quick
answers to an alleged massacre by U.S. Marines of Iraqi citizens in
Haditha should not be allowed to outweigh the need for a thorough
investigation. Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
acknowledged that the allegations involving the deaths of about two
dozen Iraqis have raised concerns among Iraqi officials and in the
United States. On Thursday, the U.S. military ordered that the 150,000
coalition troops in Iraq, including 130,000 Americans, get special
training in ethics and "the values that separate us from our enemies."
I have a cousin who is training as I type for an upcoming one-year
tour in Tikrit, Iraq. I don't know whether the Marines are guilty or
innocent of the alleged crimes in question. However, the elephant in
the room is that terrorists are purposely mixing in with the civilian
population and using them as human shields. Why is there so little
criticism about that technique as well? I do agree that the Bush
administration has been slow to investigate the matter though.
