Oh, Canada...

At a recent meeting, the Ontario chapter of the [1]Canadian Union of
Public Employees (CUPE) unanimously adopted a resolution "support(ing)
the international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions" of
   Israel ([2]link).

Pardon me, but the most [3]popular article on the CUPE website is how
much a striker gets paid (C$40/day - tax free). It's charter states:

A strong and democratic union, CUPE is committed to improving the
quality of life for workers in Canada. Women and men working
together to form local unions built CUPE. They did so to have a
stronger voice â a collective voice â in their workplace and in
     society as a whole.

Isn't the Middle East a bit beyond its scope?

Reading further it's clear that this union goes WAY beyond its charter
on several issues, including globalization, women's rights, and
environmentalism. The group travels a bit as well. Here's a [4]write
up on a jaunt to Mexico City to attend the World Water Forum. No
mention about how much this trip cost for the four attendees, or
whether that money would have been better spent on, say, boosting
   strike pay.

While I sympathize with some unions, CUPE's actions and policies are
representative of why most Americans do not. Perhaps a boycott of the
   boycotters is called for.
