The Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got the Iraqi media and terrorism, the conflict between Israel
   and Hezbollah, and much more.

[1]Afghan Lord reports on the fighting that's still going on in
   Afghanistan.

[2]Baghdad Connect continues to report on the apparently sectarian
murders going on in Baghdad. I write "apparently" because no one is
really certain who is being killed or by whom. Check out BC's
observations on the difficulties of identification and the complicity
of the media in the killings.

Without question the story of the week in the Iraqi blogosphere has
been the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. [3]Roads to Iraq has
had tremendous coverage of the hostilities in Lebanon this week. Just
keep scrolling. In [4]this post, for example, she has a complete
translation of a speech by Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. In
[5]this post she has a map showing the Beirut airport and the adjacent
Hezbollah stronghold. Too much here to describe it all. [6]The Exiled
Shalash has been posting up a storm on the conflict. Don't miss the
analysis at the top of the page and then keep scrolling. In a very
tough-minded post, Ali of [7]Free Iraqi hopes that the war between
   Israel and Hezbollah will continue:

As horrible as it may seem I do wish the war between Israel and
Hezbollah goes on and on, that it spreads to involve Iran and
Syria. I feel terrible for the losses among the innocents, Lebanese
and Israeli, but I think that this is the only way for them, and us
     to finally have some peace.

The âanti-warâ in the west cannot see any good coming out of war,
and how can they when some of them probably havenât heard a gun
shot probably in 10 years if not more! It seems to me that although
most of them are intelligent and honest people, they still donât
understand the way we live, here in Iraq, there in Lebanon or
Syria. They canât understand that peace for us, the one we used to
live in and the one the Lebanese used to live in, the Syrians and
Iranians is not even close to what it is to them and therefore war
for us is not even close to what it is for them.

Read the whole thing. His brother, Mohammed of [8]Iraq the Model seems
to be on the same page. [9]Hammorabi sees it differently:

Wars create only destructions and Israel and the Lebanese should
stop war and negotiate to decide peace immediately.

[10]Thought Riot has no fondness for Hezbollah:

They're no different than Alqaeda, they're just relatively more
focused and have picked a better target than the U.S though one
could argue that if you pick on Israel you're picking on the
States, but well...Israel isn't as out of reach as the States might
     be.

She goes on to suggest that Hezbollah is, basically, a Shi'ite
al-Qaeda. [11]Treasure of Baghdad writes in support of the Lebanese
people. [12]Truth About Iraqis posts lots of pictures of dead Lebanese
   children.

[13]Ibn al-Rafidain posts on women's rights in Iraq.

Check out [14]Iraqi Roulette's post on war at his very doorstep.

Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [15]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
