   Israel continues to lash Hizbollah, which has unveiled [1]some nasty
   surprises, and there is an interesting dynamic playing out with the
   new Lebanese government (which might like to see Israel weaken
   Hibollah) but overall the whole thing seems Sisyphean, or perhaps like
   a tired play run on well past a graceful closing. Decades of
   repetition would bore any audience, especially when the real players
   remain off the stage.
   More [2]support for my earlier proposition that Israel should behave
   as though they are at war with Iran, because they are. The mullahs are
   barely even bothering to [3]pretend otherwise anymore.
   And Michael Oren [4]agrees with my earlier assessment of Israelâs
   options:

     Therefore Israel has no realistic option but to convince these
     states that the price of promoting aggression is prohibitive. If
     Israeli soldiers and civilians are the targets of Iranian- and
     Syrian-backed terror, then the Iranian and Syrian militaries must
     become targets for Israel

   The dictatorial leaders of these governments are not going to stop
   sponsoring terrorism until they are made to pay a real, personal price
   for doing so. These truly are regimes run by thugs, and nothing less
   than the probability of retaliatory violence being visited at their
   own doorstep will deter them.
   If that seems overly aggressive, consider what action the United
   States would take against a nation actively harboring and supporting a
   terrorist group that was killing Americans (for a hint, look east and
   west of Iran).
   And last, consider how much more frightening the current situation
   would be if Iran had nukes. If something doesnât change radically in
   the next few years, that nightmare will soon be the new reality on the
   ground.
