The Carnival of the Liberated
http://www.deanesmay.com/posts/1152624900.shtml
Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got a rape in Mahmudiya, the view from Jordan, the high price of
gasoline, and much more.
[1]Afghan Lord reports on suicide attacks in Afghanistan.
Baghdad Connect continues to be among the very most interesting Iraqi
blogs. In [2]this post the author hears echoes of the Soviets in
Afghanistan in the U. S. presence in Iraq. I think that this is
somewhat strained but here's the interesting part:
What is taking place in Baghdad today is the beginning of Baghdad
beyond the US physical presence. The Baathists have divided the
city into sectors and mainly east and west (professionals and
vocationals). Head of each city division is responsible for
executing the plans that are set by the Baath party leaders, and
the objective is the annihilation of the Shiite working and elite
classes in the Sunni stronghold, from carpenters (45 nos killed),
Bakers (100 nos killed), to Doctors (more than 30 killed),
professors & educators (more than 600 nos. killed), and the
well-crafted list, also, includes engineers, judges, school
principals, and public servants and even icemen and butchers!
Read the whole thing.
[3]Roads to Iraq posts the ID of the girl allegedly raped and murdered
along with her family in Mahmudiya by American soldiers. The date of
birth indicates she was born on March 28, 1993. [4]Hammorabi posts an
account of the incident. [5]Freedom of Mind has a lengthy diatribe on
it.
Sunshine of [6]Days of My Life posts about Iraqi wedding customs.
Zeyad of [7]Healing Iraq posts on the view from Amman, Jordan: lots of
Iraqis.
Dean's already linked to it but without question the post of the week
is [8]this post from Omar of Iraq the Model. In the post Omar
translates some comments from the BBC Arabic blog on the standoff in
Gaza. Compare the reactions of Iraqis with those of non-Iraqis.
[9]Where Date Palms Grow posts again about the price of gasoline.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [10]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
