   NASA's got plans to [1]make the international space station an
   emergency shelter if a space shuttle can't be landed, and to wire up
   the shuttle so it can be landed via remote control.

   Gah. To be honest, I wish they'd just stop. It's time to retire the
   entire fleet and start over with a fundamental re-examination of
   NASA's entire mission. But with their being a behemoth bureaucracy and
   all, I doubt we'll see that any time soon.
