Jamil Possibly Located; AP Credibility Still At Large

Armed Liberal [1]may have found a similarly-named Iraqi police captain
in the same area. [2]Allahpundit is talking Corvus appetizers, but
more than anything this reminds me of the moment during RatherGate
when they found the elderly secretary who said she thought the
National Guard memos were real; the AP will claim vindication despite
the fact this does not address the many remaining problems with this
   story. Letâs review those problems:
4 mosques burned, or one? The AP seems to have conceded this one.
Six immolated Sunnis, or none? Theyâre still fighting this point, but
the non-reaction from the Iraqi Sunni community pretty much says it
all. The funerals would have been a huge rallying point for Sunni
extremists and would have made the news in their own right.
Jamil Hussein: Did he exist and give an honest, accurate account, did
he exist and gave a dishonest or inaccurate account (or was
mis-attributed), or did he just not exist? Merely ruling out the last
one doesn't make the story accurate, and it's worth noting that the
first possibility seems to be ruled out by the apparently admitted
discrepancy in the number of mosques involved.
So possibly we could be moving from egregiously bad reporting to
merely very bad reporting. And as Iâve said before, the APâs
vituperous reaction to the legitimate questions raised really shows
their lack of commitment to intellectual honesty in their reporting.
Which, to be honest, bothers me a lot. When it comes to being neutral
between the U.S. perspective and that of brutal dictators and
terrorists, they wax poetic about the need for objectivity. When it
comes to questions about their own reporting, itâs us versus them to
   the death.
