[1]splendid isolation

In the last week my blogging focuses largely on the Carter / Baker
double shot of "blame Israel first" foreign policy. I thought I made
some decent points, largely ricocheting off things written by other
people. I got some good discussions going. I care about the issue. I
had fun.
Did I accomplish anything?
Is this anything but a very cheap ego trip? I like to write, and you
like to read. Some of you like write what I read. I don't think any of
you work in the White House, with all due respect. Am I doing much
more than those odd people who stand on boxes in Hyde Park, listening
to themselves , along with a few dozen of their closest friends,
posterity eminently unmoved by their words?
I probably spend an hour a day on Dean's World blogging. Some days,
more. I can't imagine what the big cheese spends on it. For that
matter I can't imagine how someone like Glenn Reynolds teaches law and
is held responsible for blogging almost hourly most of the day by his
gazillions of readers, though admittedly his posts can be rather
short. But I also have to keep [3]Likelihood of Confusion fresh, which
can be a struggle when there's not topical news for me to report. I
have had days where I've spent the whole day blogging between the two
blogs and have to work into the night just to meet my responsibilities
to my clients, and bill a few hours worth of time so my family can
eat. I enjoy the blogging more, but I am used to the idea that,
notwithstanding all the talk from people who have been successful
doing what they love, most of us can't, don't, won't.
I can't imagine giving it up, but on a blue Monday morning where
existential angst is nipping at my heels, I wonder if it's best not
too look to hard just what exactly "it" is.
