   Probably best not to read [1]this if you're eating lunch.
   There had been some dispute about whether the Aztecs were actually
   ritual cannibals (Victor Hanson makes mention in one of his books of
   one of Cortez' men recording that during a pause in battle the Aztecs
   threw one of their comrades' half-eaten legs over the wall) or whether
   this was exaggeration/bigotry on the part of the Spanish. This
   discovery should decisively end any doubts on that score.
   The horror these people experienced is difficult to contemplate. This
   is an example of what I mean when I say that historically speaking
   religious organizations tended to be horribly repressive.
   Thank God for Western Civ and the Enlightenment.
