The Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got logic, comments on a Maliki interview, the Jill Carroll
   interviews, and much more.

[1]Afghan Lord posts about the challenges ahead for the NATO forces
which, as of July 31, have taken responsibility for peacekeeping in
   southern Afghanistan.

In his post on a second get-together of Iraqi bloggers in Jordan [2]24
Steps to Liberty has, I think, the first-ever group photo of Iraqi
   bloggers.

Sunshine of [3]Days of My Life complains about the government.

[4]Freedom of Mind asks "Why can Israel get away with anything?".

Zeyad of [5]Healing Iraq critiques Hezbollah leader Nasrallah:

Of course, for leaders like Nasrallah, their mere survival is a
victory in their eyes, and the eyes of the âUmmahâ. I am reminded
by Saddam Hussein's speech in the wake of the 1991 Gulf War. The
fact that the Shiâite warlord managed to fire hundreds of missiles
deep into Israel, a feat that not even Gamal Abdul Nasser could
achieve in his time, represents another major victory for the Arab
and Muslim masses starving for any semblance of Israeli and western
defeat, only to add more imaginary victories to feed their
     self-delusion for years to come.

Without question the post of the week from the Iraqi blogosphere is
Mohammed of [6]Iraq the Model's post, "Logic Amid the Sands...".
Here's a tiny sample (the reference is to an article in al-Sharq
   al-Awsat):

No doubt our writer realizes that those in power in the region do
not want to see a logical end for this conflict because then the
bitter truth of numbers and results on the ground will wipe out the
illusion of victoryâ¦all what these people want is a continuation
of a low-level conflict that can be portrayed to the public as
victory to justify and legitimize the concept of "patriot
resistance" and "necessary leaders" so that the public stands
behind those leaders and overlook or learn to accept all of their
     bad sides.

Mohammed considers the illogic of some commonly-held beliefs and the
   reasons behind them. A must-read!

[7]Treasure of Baghdad translates and comments on an interview with
   Iraqi PM Maliki on al-Iraqiya.

[8]Truth About Iraqis believes that Jill Carroll is lying.

Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [9]The Glittering Eye.
The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
