   Bernard Lewis has an interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal this
   week. Alas, I think he makes a terrible blunder, if not an uncommon
   one. You can [1]read it right here.

   There is no doubt of the religious fanaticism he speaks of. But my
   experience has been that whenever someone tries to set a specific date
   for a cataclysm, they almost always wind up with egg on their faces.

   But there's no doubt in my mind that some of the mullahs who rule
   oppressed Iran, along with their hand-picked "elected" politicians,
   are crazy. They do indeed glorify "martyrdom," and Lewis demonstrates
   that quite well. I also have no doubt that a nuclear-armed Iran would
   launch on Israel, without much care of being nuked in return. I think
   Lewis is probably right that Mutally Assured Destruction does not
   apply here.

   Troubling to say the least. But I must express skepticism: setting
   dates based on wild guesses is more likely to get you mocked than
   taken seriously. Even if you are as distinguished a scholar as Lewis.
