Considering the Israeli Wall

The security wall that Israel has built is a rather fascinating little
Rohrschach for conventional wisdom. As I'm sure everyone remembers,
the wall was originally very controversial, with some condemning it as
another Berlin Wall (though it should be noted that the one was
intended to keep good people in, the other to keep bad ones out). But
as time went on, it became less and less so. Why did this happen?
I would argue that the change in general opinion occurred because it
takes only a minimal level of perspicacity to realize diplomacy isn't
an option when one side always negotiates in bad faith, and eventually
enough evidence was available that rational observers tended to
conclude Palestinian leaders were not good-faith negotiators in
regards to terrorism, and thus only some sort of unilateral action
could deny the bombers' ability to target innocent Israelis for
   murder.
   What do you think?
