   At the nomination of [1]Martin Shoemaker, I am placing [2]And So It
   Begins into the Best Discussions archive, in particular on the
   strength of excellent commentary by Vic Stein, Cobb, and Pennywit.
   (Oh, and did you notice a discussion doesn't have to be particularly
   long to be particularly good? The whole thing is an excellent lesson
   in practical democratic-republican politics works, folks (it's not a
   partisan thing at all, even if some of the related articles are).

   By the way, Martin is the first person since the late and much-missed
   Stephen Malcolm Anderson to actually ask me to place something in that
   archive. Which is not to say that I automatically accede to such
   requests, because I don't. But I don't always notice things I should,
   and Martin was right. The point is, don't be shy. The worst thing I'll
   do is say, "Enh, I'm not so sure." (No, this isn't a democracy. It's a
   salon with a proprietor.)

   I'm also placing [3]Can You Imagine All Those Eggs? into the archive,
   because it is not only a good discussion but also helps demonstrate
   that whether it's about peace in the Middle East, the existence of
   God, the pathogenicity of HIV, or the number of eggs eaten at Waffle
   House, we are never afraid to discuss the weighty issues of the day.
