Melanie Martinez and PBS Stupidity

I was recently rather disgusted to learn that the people at PBS had
[1]fire the host of The Goodnight Show, Melanie Martinez. Why? Because
it was revealed that 7 years ago she helped make an adults-only spoof
   commercial. In 1999.

Here's one of the deeply offensive commercials--which, by the way,
would probably be entirely work-safe where I work. Maybe not where you
work but really, this is ridiculously tame, at least in my world:

   [EMBED]

This was for adults, and it was 7 years ago. For a [2]web site that no
longer exists. (And by the way if you click that link you can sign a
petition to PBS to reinstate her, if you're so inclined. I signed it.)

I've seen PBS use Whoopi Goldberg on Sesame Street. I've seen George
Carlin doing stuff for kid's shows on Nickelodeon. Has anyone heard
some of the stuff they've done? George Carlin of the immortal "7 words
you can't say on television" routine? Does this video go further? For
goodness sakes Whoopi Goldberg used to do a very well-known "comedy"
skit about a 13 year old girl who got a back-alley abortion. She can
still appear (repeatedly) on Sesame Street, but this girl needs to
   lose her job? Over that?

   Ridiculous.
