The Carnival of the Liberated

Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the
best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghani bloggers. This week
we've got Blogger blocked in Pakistan, newspapers banned in Baghdad,
two new Iraqi bloggers, and much, much more.

Afghan Lord has been on a road trip to Peshawar and what he's seen on
the way is enough to make your blood boil: apparently [1]Pakistan has
prevented Blogger acess. It's unclear whether it's a local policy or
something effected on a nation-wide basis à la China. He's also
learning [2]things about Islam he never knew. Well, travel is
   broadening they say.

[3]24 Step to Liberty remembers the day the statue of Saddam fell.
[4]Attawie's thinking about the fall of Baghdad, too. Or is it Liberty
   Day?

There's a new Iraqi blogger and he's good! Check out [5]Where Date
Palms Grow. Hat tip: [6]A Star From Mosul.

[7]An Iraqi Tear gives her thoughts on the political situation in
   Iraq: it's all Bush's fault.

You won't find much about politics in the rather dissolute Shaggy of
[8]Baghdad Bacon and Eggs's posts but you can pick up some interesting
context. The linked post is about Nahida. Who's Nahida? That's what
   the post is about.

[9]Iraqi Konfused Kollege Kid tells us about his secret past: he was a
   mosque chanter.

Have I mentioned lately how great the ex-patriate Iraqi blog [10]Eye
   Raki is? Just keep scrolling.

I probably don't link to Imad Khadduri's posts as often as I should
but they're frequently so long and disjointed that I find it
difficult. Basically, he's an anti-occupation news aggregator. You
might want to read his [11]posting of the public service announcement
from "The General Command of the Armed Forces" i.e. the insurgency.

There's good news and bad news. The bad news is that Zeyad of
[12]Healing Iraq is leaving Iraq. The good news is that he'll be
studying journalism at CUNY (with Jeff Jarvis).

[13]Ibn Al-Rafidain posts about the gap between the American media
space and the Iraqi media space.

New Iraqi blogger [14]I Was There posts on the ban on newspapers by
the terrorists in Baghdad. Here's his biographical blurb:

I am a lucky person who was able to get and see every thing that
many others couldn't, and because of that, I wanted to share my
experience with the others, so I became a flying instructor then a
reporter for one of the well known newspapers(I was lucky in that
too), and now I decided to share it with you through this Blog, so
the people will know what I know, and will learn what I learned; to
work in places, like the ones that I use to work in, gave me the
chance to discover so many secrets that many still asking about it
or does not know about it; I couldn't talk about it before, but now
I will put every thing in my Blog so if I will die, these things
will not die with me; I will start talking, and I will talk about
every thing I saw or I will see, because I was there...

   Hat tip: [15]Iraq the Model

[16]Baghdad Treasure tells us about the Iraq Memory Foundation.

Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, [17]The Glittering
Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.
