Idol Thoughts 4/4

Here are my notes on last night's performance more or less as I wrote
them while watching:
Kenny Rogers eh? Well the man's got talent. I think I'm liking this
tendency to bring in other artists. I really wonder how some of these
artists will handle country material. Taylor: Country Roads eh? I
didn't know Kenny Rogers wrote that. Hmm. I don't know. Beginning was
pretty bad. The middle was pretty good. I'm a huge Taylor Hicks fan
but I wasn't too moved by that. Bad song choice for him I think. Crap,
could he wind up in the bottom 3??
Judges: Randy thinks so too. Paula, "blahrgle blarg. Boo." Simon says,
"Safe, boring, lazy." Yeah. Mandisa: Sounds warbly. I'm starting to
wonder if she has trouble singing when she doesn't have big notes to
belt out. She's wonderful when she hits them though. Very good song
choice.
Judges: Randy, "Dawg, yo, dawg, not great dawg yo." Paula thinks it
was boring. Simon, "Horrible." I don't quite agree.
"Someone at that table has a flask?" And they look at Simon? Elliot:
"If Tomorrow Never Comes." He's so quiet I can barely hear him, is
that just me? Anyway... his voice is beautiful as usual. Not a good
song for him though.
Judges: Randy, "Dawg yo. Good dog yo!" Paula, "Yer such a fresh breath
to this bizness." Simon says it was safe but okay. Best so far? I
guess so. That's not saying much. Paris: What's up with that haircut?
This one makes her look a lot older. Wow, "I Don't Want To Live
Without You?" She's delivering this well. I was almost certain that
country music would throw her off her game, but she's great! She
practically turned it into a soul song! Wow, wow. That was awesome.
Judges: Randy didn't like it. Paula didn't like it. Simon says he
disagrees! Wow, I was wondering what was wrong with me. That was
awesome. Ace: Please God tell me he's going home this week. Kenny
Rogers thinks he's going to kick butt though. Oh, damn it, he's
sounding pretty good. Damn. That wasn't bad.
Judges: Randy says it was nice but boring. Paula completely disagrees.
Simon says he chose a good song and had a good night. Yep. Kellie: Oh
the producers have heard about calamari and salmon eh? Yeah okay, make
people hate you less. If it makes you drop the dumb hick routine,
good. Well anyway, she's safe this week. She did that very well, no
surprise. She could have put a little more edge on that for my tastes,
but it was good. Seemed colorless to me but radio-worthy.
Judges: Randy, says she's in her element. Paula says she sank her
teeth into it. Simon says, "It would be a shocker if you weren't
good," hated the song but she was good. Chris: This is not his
element. It doesn't matter. That was quite good if a little boring.
Judges: Randy says this was a very good changeup for him. Showed
versatility but stayed who he is. Simon thinks the audience deserved
better and was a bad song choice. He's right about the boring part.
Katherine: "You Bring Out The Elvis In Me." Hmmmmmmm. She's good on
the chorus. Seems boring otherwise.
Judges: Randy says "very nice." Damning with faint press. Paula, "Yer
sexy!" Simon says it was peculiar. I actually agree, it was a peculiar
performance. Bucky: He's also in his element here. However... he
sounds pretty bad. He sounded off-key in the beginning. I don't know.
I was expecting him to knock that out of the park and he didn't.
Judges: Randy agrees he was out of tune. Paula can only say this was
his element. Simon said it sounded okay.
---
Well that was a boring night.
The winner: Paris
Bottom Three: Taylor, Mandisa, Katherine (but it's a hard call, only
Taylor was an outright disappointment.)
Going Home: Should be Taylor based on that but his fans may save him.
I pick Katherine.
Man next week better be better or I may not bother watching.
