	The number of people who study Islam, and claim to
	study Islam, has expanded enormously over the past
	few years: On the whole, this is a positive
	phenomenon. Other than the occasional quack, the
	general interest is to be commended. But, of
	course, deep passions do not translate into
	remarkable works and insights. In that regard, I
	have long felt that Professor Faisal Devji,
	teaching at New School University, is necessary,
