	We in Britain are sometimes told by our critics
	that we lack a dynamic political creed to set
	against Fascism and Communism; something to whose
	services all our children can be educated, all our
	young people dedicated, something that can fire the
	imagination and inspire prophets and priests.
	(Certainly neither Democracy nor Freedom can fill
	this bill.) It is a sign of our political maturity
	that we have no such creed; it is a pathological
	symptom when such a creed sweeps a State; this is
