   And then there were two.
In the first match of the day, Karpov-Nakamura, Nakamura was happy to
draw the two games comfortably and head for the blitz games. At those
time controls Karpov was a heavy underdog, and sure enough Nakamura
won both games to advance to the final. Ivanchuk-Carlsen,
surprisingly, was also relatively one-sided. Ivanchuk should have won
the first game - with Black - but he allowed Carlsen to escape with
the two rook-pawn version of the Vancura draw. (I'm thinking of making
this ending the subject of my next [1]ChessVideos show.) Game two was
an easy draw for Carlsen, so they also went to blitz. This time
Ivanchuk had White in the first game and won in crushing style, and
could have won the second game as well, but allowed Carlsen to repeat
in a lost position to clinch the match.
The final is tomorrow, and starts at 12:30 p.m. ET.
   Further tournament coverage [2]here.
