   [1]Di Stefano was an opera star of a previous generation, a tenor who
   was known for his close collaboration with Maria Callas and who was
   Pavarotti's model as a singer. He died, sadly, not from old age, but
   from prolonged complications resulting from a 2004 beating by unknown
   assailants.
   [2]Have a listen to a remarkable performance of E Lucevan le Stelle
   (from Tosca) recorded live in Mexico City. The crowd seems to have
   escaped from a soccer match - several minutes of applause after a song
   from the first act (not at the end of the opera) forces di Stefano to
   do an encore. Now that is how a crowd should react!
