The French Top 16 pushes Nakamura over 2700

This past weekend, the [1]French Top 16 (a team competition)
concluded, and Hikaru Nakamura's 3-0 finish will put him over 2700 on
the July 2008 FIDE list, according to his stepfather, Sunil
Weeramantry. (This I discovered from a brief chat with him earlier
this evening at the tournament site for the National Open. The main
event starts tomorrow; today (Thursday) there were some side events: a
G/10 tourney (won by Nakamura, I was told), a couple of simuls, and a
G/5 (yet to occur by the time I left). (I have no results to report -
I was just checking out the site and the bookstore.))
There are a lot of 2700s nowadays, so this isn't yet enough to get him
surefire invites to the superduper tournaments, but it's a big step in
that direction. One might think that on the verge of this milestone,
he'd try to play it safe and defeat his opponents by superior
technique, but as you'll see from [2]this game, he didn't exactly go
out of his way to avoid complications.
