If you don't take a stand now, today, right this minute, freedom will be just another word with no real meaning. The University of Toledo has suspended with pay one of its administrators for writing a newspaper op-ed that questions whether homosexuality is a civil rights issue. The school said the administrator was suspended precisely because her views on homosexuality do not comport with those of the university, a state institution. Crystal Dixon, associate vice president of human resources at the Ohio-based university, sparked controversy Apr. 18 when she wrote in the Toledo Free Press that she did not agree with comments by the newspaper's editor that portrayed homosexuals as civil rights victims. In the column, "Gay rights and wrongs: another perspective," Dixon said she was not speaking on behalf of the university, but was writing privately as "a Black woman who happens to be an alumnus of the University of Toledo's Graduate School, an employee and a business owner." Considering the blatant abrogation of Ms. Dixon's 1^st amendment rights, you would think [1]this story would have gotten wide coverage. After all, the media are fierce guardians of the First Amendment, aren't they? You would be wrong. No major media outlet covered this story. Not CNN. Not CBS. Not ABC. Not NBC. Not the supposedly conservative Fox News. Not the NY Times. Not the Washington Post. Not the supposedly conservative Washington Times. No one. The article goes on to report "Homosexual activists condemned Dixon's comments and praised Jacobs for the action he took." Homosexual activists are fools. They're so blinded by their own agenda that they can't even see how, in a country that allows people to be censured for their opinions, the very same thing could be done to them. The days of "I completely disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" are disappearing in the dusty halls of history, replaced by a tyranny that is as capricious as the people who wield its power. And no one seems to care any more. They're so wrapped up in their own reality they can't see the country they should love and be proud to defend crumbling away beneath their feet. When the end comes, they will be uncomprehending and dumbstruck. The time is short. True Americans, unaffected by political bias and agenda-driven politics, will see this incident for what it really is. A Paul Revere moment -- a clarion alarm bell screaming for patriots to unite in defense of freedom. The rest will wonder how Brittany is doing and what Mariah and Nick will name their first child. I pray to God there are enough patriots left to save America. And I pray Ms. Dixon hires an attorney and ends up owning the University of Toledo.
