The Democrats are poised....
http://www.antimedia.us/posts/1193196219.shtml
....to ram [1]amnesty through the Senate tomorrow without a debate.
Senator Reid has filed to [2]invoke cloture and force a vote on the
measure tomorrow.
Here's how the Democrats characterize their bill.
The DREAM Act would make it possible for certain long-term
undocumented immigrant children to go to college or join the
military if they meet stringent requirements. It does not address
the status of their parents, but simply allows children-who had no
choice in the decision to come here-the opportunity to continue
their education and give back to the country that they call home.
Here's some of the details of the bill that the Democrats characterize
this way.
1. Anyone who entered the country before the age of 16 and has
remained here for at least five years, except for short trips out
of the US, except that the Secretary can waive that requirement
2. Anyone who, after entering the country, committed a crime, so long
as they were less than 16 at the time of the offense (Apparently,
entering the country illegally isn't considered a crime.)
3. No limitations on the number of persons who may receive amnesty
4. The Secretary can make arbitrary exemptions whenever he desires to
5. Illegal aliens gain "conditional permanent residence" merely by
meeting the above qualifications, without having to provide any
proof whatsoever, and nothing the Secretary can do can change that
once that status is obtained
6. The only real requirement is that they must enroll in college
(paid for by you) or enlist in the military (if the military will
take them) and serve two years (in college or the military)
There's much more, but you get the idea. It's a naked amnesty bill
with no enforcement teeth behind it that opens the door to amnesty for
all illegal aliens.
Meanwhile, I'm preparing to attend the oath ceremony for a co-worker
who has waited seven years to earn her citizenship legally.
What's wrong with this picture?
The vote is tomorrow. I've already emailed both of my Senators, and I
will be calling their offices in the morning. What about you? (Hat tip
