Matt at Blackfive is....

....ready to announce [1]victory in Iraq. My readers know I claimed
   victory almost two years ago.
In January,2006 I wrote, [2]The "insurgency" is so over. Zarqawi has
   to be really pissed.
Zarqawi is now dead, and his Al Qaeda in Iraq organization is
   crumbling.
In March, 2007, I wrote, [3]It's only a matter of time now until
terrorist attacks in Iraq become more of a law enforcement problem
   than a military one.
Seven months later this is now coming true all over Iraq.
I point this out not to brag but to prove that, if you read the source
materials and you sift through the bs to get to what's really going
on, your perspective is a bit different than the average person whose
opinions are influenced by the thoughts of others. (And NO, I am NOT
   saying that applies to Matt!)
I've taken plenty of flack for that. I've been accused, repeatedly, of
being "a Bushie", or refusing to see reality, of being hardheaded and
stubborn. Many have pointed out the canard that "60% of Americans"
want our troops to come home, as if that, somehow, proves me wrong.
I don't care what other people think, and I don't care what other
people think of me either. I'm going to write what I think even if I'm
the only person left on the planet who thinks that way. What I write
is influenced by my biases, not by the Republicans, not by the
Democrats and not by anyone else.
Far too many people get their opinions about what's going on in a
story by reading the "news" of the event, which is often subtly
sprinkled with opinion and bias by what is written and what is left
out of a story, what the lede or the headline is or what the emphasis
   of the story is.
Often people are misled because a certain theme in a story fits their
preconceived idea of what is going on. They look for validation rather
   than information.
What I try to do is figure out what is missing from the story, what is
not being pointed out, and highlight it so my readers can be
challenged to think for themselves. I try to ask the hard questions
and find the answers to them.
Sometimes I get it wrong. Sometimes I get it right.
You, dear reader, get to do with that whatever you wish.
And that is why I continue to write.
