Better late than never....

....or so they say. I owe one of my readers an apology. She may not
think so, but I do. Two weeks ago, when I was attending the Milblog
Conference, I took advantage of a break to seek out Lorie Byrd of the
Whizbang blog. Lorie and I had already agreed to meet, and I thought
the break would be a good time to say hello.
As I was making my way to the front of the room, a woman stopped me
and told me how much she enjoyed reading my blog. I said something
flippant about her being my only reader and moved on.
Now that I think back on it (and it's been bothering me ever since I
left the conference and had time to think about it), my behavior was
inexcusable. I didn't stop. I didn't shake her hand. I didn't even
thank her. I never got her name.
I'm ashamed of myself. Rather than spend a moment with someone who
appreciates my blog, I moved on as if she didn't matter. I've pondered
why I behaved that way, and the conclusion I came to is not pretty.
I often find myself wondering why I don't have more comments and more
traffic on my blog. Even though I can still remember when I would go
days without a single reader, I have lost sight of what really matters
-- those who do read my blog. Caught up in the ego trip of wanting
more recognition and more traffic, I have become unthankful. I was so
self-centered, I ignored someone who reads my blog faithfully.
Since I was such a jerk and didn't even get her name, the only way I
can apologize to her is by doing so publicly and hope that she still
reads my blog. I'd like her to email me, if she reads this. If she
attends the Milblog Conference next year, I hope she finds me and
introduces herself. If she emails me so that I know who she is, I will
make it a point to find her. I promise to give her the attention she
deserved the first time.
For all my other readers, I promise to redouble my efforts not to lose
sight of why I started this blog or take any of my readers for
granted. If this blog never grows any larger, I will thank my readers
daily for faithfully returning to read again.
