Stunning news from France....
http://www.antimedia.us/posts/1178493035.shtml

....where liberalism [1]is out and conservatism is in. The center of
the socialist universe has experienced an earthquake felt round the
   world.

Nicolas Sarkozy, the son of a Hungarian immigrant, has won the
French presidency with a solid majority that he described tonight
as a mandate for a moral renaissance and radical reform of the
     over-regulated welfare state.
Thousands celebrated late into the night in the Place de la
Concorde after the 52-year-old leader of President Chiracâs Union
for a Popular Movement defeated Ségolène Royal, the Socialist,
with 53 percent of the vote. The turnout after their bitter
fortnightâs duel since the first round was a near-record 85
     percent.

Sarkozy campaigned on a slogan that one would have thought the French
would have rejected without a thought -- âWork more to earn moreâ.
This guy seems very serious about radically changing French society.

âThe French have chosen to break with the ideas, habits and
behaviour of the past,â he said. âI will restore the value of work,
authority, merit and respect for the nation.â
He would also rid France of its habit of ârepentingâ for its past
historical sins. âThis repentance is a form of self-hatred,â he
     said.

You can almost feel American leftists shudder. Noam Chomsky must be
   overcome by sadness.
Time will tell, but it appears things are about to change in Europe.
