Reflections on the Gathering of Eagles....

....CJ has [1]a lot of good information about the day. Be sure to read
his entire report and click on the links to video and audio.
Here's some of my thoughts. For me, more than anything else, this
event exposed the media for what they are. The professional media had
satellite trucks all set up and ready to go -- for the anti-war event.
(CJ has the pictures. I took some too.) One might be able to forgive
them for not knowing about the GOE. After all, it was a internet-based
grassroots effort. (It obviously surprised the anti-war protesters.)
But, once the GOE event began (long before the anti-war people even
bothered to show up), it became obvious that something was going on at
our rally point. Yet not one reporter even bothered to wander over and
find out what was going on, much less report honestly on what took
place.
Did the media point out that Jane Fonda never even bothered to show
up? Did they mention that Ramsey Clark wasn't there either? Did they
report that none of the touted Hollywood anti-war celebrities showed
up? An honest reporter would have.
Did you read the interview that I and my friends did with the
Associated Press? Did you see any mention of my cousin, Donald
Carlson, whose name is on panel w50, line 41? I gave that information
to the reporter. And I saw him write it down. But Donald's sacrifice
wasn't valuable enough to deserve a one-line mention.
All the reporting of the events reflected the deliberate choices of
the reporters and their employers. They chose not to cover the GOE.
They chose not to accurately report the numbers. They choose to
interview vets who are opposed to the war. They choose to make it
appear that the anti-war side has greater support. They choose not to
look into the communist backgrounds of the financiers of the anti-war
movement and report on them.
So always keep in mind, what you see on TV news and what you read in
the papers is the result of many deliberate choices that reflect a
pre-determined, desired outcome for the news.
What you are not seeing is a fact-based, accurate account of what took
place. Camera angles are used to inflate the size of a crowd. "Seeded"
interviews are used to get the "right" viewpoint across. Other
potential interviews are ignored, because they would detract from the
chosen theme.
In other words, the "news" is a manufactured product, and the
manufacturer isn't polling the customers for desired features. They're
producing the product they want you to buy. When you buy a lemon car,
you have legal recourse. When you purchase a faulty product, the
manufacturer must replace it or refund your money.
When the media lies to you, you have no recourse, no input, no voice
at all in the process.
When a product is faulty, it can cause anything from aggravation to a
loss of life. When the media reports are "faulty", an entire country
can be lost, along with your children's futures.
Given the stakes, it was a small thing indeed for those of us who
attended the GOE to do so. It was simply our duty, and, as we always
have, we performed it, quietly, professionally, stedfastly and to the
fullest of our abilities.
For those many veterans who were unable to attend, despite a powerful
desire to be there, we stood on your behalf. Now is the time for all
of us, wherever we live, to stand up for freedom.
Never again should we allow protesters anywhere an unopposed stage to
spout their lies. No matter what time of day or night, no matter the
weather, we should stand guard on all memorials, stand against the
protesters, stand for America, stand up everywhere. The time to put a
stop to the communists is now. The place to take a stand is wherever
you are.
