How I devoutly wish that Imus....

....would question the other 99 Senators [1]like this.
Imus: Hereâs another question. Have you ever been over to Walter
Reed?
Schumer: Ahh, not in a while, no.
Imus: How long has it been since youâve been over there?
Schumer: Oh, before Iraq.
Imus: So, before Iraq since youâve been over to see the soldiers.
So, we have elected you â first in the Congress and now in the
Senate â and youâve got a bill now to do something weâll get to in
a minute; but you havenât even been to Walter Reed Hospital.
Schumer: No, no, no. But I have visited regularly the veterans'
hospitals throughout my state. Thatâs where I have focused on . . .
Imus: Well, you must have seen the state of affairs there . . .
Schumer: I did.
Imus: Well why didnât you do something about it?
Schumer: We did . . . I did . . . I tried, I have been pushing . .
.
Imus: Well nothing happened, Senator.
Schumer: No, nothing happened, I agree with you. Itâs a shame. Itâs
a disgrace.
Read the whole interview. Imus absolutely nailed Schumer for his
hypocrisy.
Make no mistake about it, our politicians have known about the
problems in the VA system and Walter Reed for a long, long time. They
have simply chosen to ignore them. Both parties are guilty.
There's a line that Schumer uses that is the Democrats' supposed
"defense" to the charge of negligence.
Imus: Have you been aware, even since 1981, of the state of
treatment that veterans have been receiving throughout the Veterans
Administration hospitals?
Schumer: Yes, itâs gotten much worse in the last seven or eight
years because the funding was just cut, cut, cut, cut, cut. I get
stories all the time of veterans wounded in Iraq, they get good
treatment over in Iraq . . . The Veterans Administration has just
been decimated in terms of funding and itâs unbelievable because .
. . we ask these people to serve us and in the DoD part, at least
in Iraq, and initially when they are wounded from all reports they
are treated well, after that they are just sort of forgotten about
and the VA is just in terrible shape, terrible shape . . . Itâs a
little like FEMA with Katrina. They put the wrong people in charge.
They donât really care. (The emphasis in Schumer's answer is mine.)
Schumer is [2]lying (pdf), of course. All the Democrats are lying
about this. (I'm not going to waste my time going over the numbers
again. If you don't believe, look up the budget numbers yourself. Bush
has increased the VA budget more, percentage wise, than any other
President in history. The lie about cutting the VA budget is just that
- a lie, plain and simple.)
Democrats are the only people on the planet who consider an increase
that's less than they wanted a "cut". There is no end to their lying
about this. Don't believe me? Look up any budget item that they've
claimed was cut in the past twenty years. All the "cuts" have been
increases.
