....[1]a hypocritical politician. (Shocking, I know.)
When confronted with thieves trying to make off with copper from a
house he was building, Texas State Representative Boris Miles pulled
his legally licensed concealed handgun and [2]shot one of the thieves
in the leg. The other one got away.
Just four months prior, Miles was one of only thirteen legislators (of
136) in the Texas House who voted against Senate Bill 378. SB 378
amended Texas law to make it legal to [3]shoot an intruder in your
house, place of business or employment even if they were only
intruding and did not represent a threat to your person. The bill also
protects the shooter from civil liability as a result of the shooting.
Futhermore, the law was amended to remove the homeowner's "duty to
retreat" in the face of an intruder, meaning that homeowners could now
stand and fight without fear of lawsuit or jail time.
Fortunately for Miles, the amended law took effect just one week
before he was able to take advantage of it.
As a result of his terrifying experience, Representative Miles "will
now fight for tougher laws and penalties for those who buy the stolen
copper so no other homeowner is forced to do what he says he was
forced to do." (Hat tip to [4]Swanky Conservative.)
