This is the kind of ignorance....

....that [1]infects Europe.
He said: "London is not a battlefield. Those innocents who were
murdered on July 7 2005 were not victims of war. And the men who
killed them were not, as in their vanity they claimed on their
ludicrous videos, 'soldiers'. They were deluded, narcissistic
inadequates. They were criminals. They were fantasists. We need to
be very clear about this. On the streets of London, there is no
such thing as a 'war on terror', just as there can be no such thing
as a 'war on drugs'.
"The fight against terrorism on the streets of Britain is not a
war. It is the prevention of crime, the enforcement of our laws and
the winning of justice for those damaged by their infringement."
So many fallacies. So little time.
Of course the fight in Britain isn't a war. Not yet, anyway. Liberals
like Red Ken always seem to assume that, in a country where the rule
of law is respected, the rule of law will always be respected. They
ignore the fact that for a country to be ruled by laws, the vast
majority of its citizens must respect and obey the law. Take away that
foundation, and the rule of law becomes a cruel joke at the expense of
the law-abiding citizens.
The fact that the full intensity of the war on terror hasn't yet
reached London does not prove that the war on terror is wrong or that
it's not a war. It merely points out that different methods are needed
when different circumstances present themselves. (Oddly enough, that's
precisely what President Bush has been saying [2]from the very
beginning.)
Furthermore, saying that the war on terror hasn't reached the streets
of London is incredibly naive. It's a bit like saying, in 1939, that
the Germans haven't attacked us yet, therefore we're not at war. If
you wait until they do reach London, then you can count on several
things; your casualties will be much higher, more innocent civilians
will die, your economy will be destroyed or seriously damaged and the
enemy will be more emboldened.
You can ignore the lessons of the past, if you choose, but don't
expect the world to thank you or remember you with respect. There is a
reason [3]Neville Chamberlain is forever linked with appeasement and
[4]Vidkun Quisling inspired a neologism that is still used today.
