   ....that the ACLU claims it is doing to [1]protect our rights. Protect
   my ass!
   Farmers Branch is a Dallas suburb on the northwest side of the city.
   Recently the City Council passed an ordinance requiring landlords to
   check the immigration status of anyone attempting to rent a property
   from them. If the person couldn't prove they were in the country
   legally, the landlord would not be able to rent to them.
   The ordinance prompted a predictable response from the usual suspects.
   Cries of racism! arose and Hispanic activists from LULAC and MALDEF
   rushed to the aid of the poor, oppressed illegal immigrants. A council
   meeting was called, and the citizens of Farmers Branch spoke out -- in
   favor of the ordinance.
   None of the activists are from Farmers Branch, of course, but that
   doesn't stop them from trying to thwart the people's will. The City
   Council decided to both allow the ordinance to go into effect as
   scheduled and to put the issue to a vote in May.
   That wasn't good enough for the activists, of course, because they
   don't want to hear the people's voice. So, they rushed to court,
   briefs in hand, and demanded an injunction preventing the city from
   enforcing the ordinance. The court issued a temporary stay and will
   hear arguments on January 20th. It should be very interesting watching
   lawyers argue that lawbreakers shouldn't be "discriminated" against.
   Once again the ACLU rushes to the rescue of the poor, underprivileged
   [DEL: American citizen :DEL] [DEL: legal immigrant :DEL] criminals,
   spending your tax dollars in the process.
