     Keith Ellison took his oath on the Koran, touching it with his left
     hand which is most definitely haram.

   In the MidEast, [3]using the left hand to do things is an insult and
   forbidden. In ancient times, when one "went abroad", as the Bible
   euphemistically puts it, one used one's left hand to wipe. (They
   didn't have toilet paper in those days you know.)
   So, the left hand because known as the hand of insult or the "dirty"
   hand. (And God shows his sense of humor by sending a troop of
   [4]left-handed archers against an enemy.)
   Touching the Koran with the left hand would definitely be verboten
   ([5]haram in Arabic) and would earn sharp criticism from knowledgeable
   Arabs. The left hand is known as the "dirty" hand and should never
   touch the Koran.
   If Ellison was truly a Muslim, he would know better than to do what he
   did. (And now you know why people on the left are such disgusting
   creatures.) :-)
