The House passed the non-binding resolution....
http://www.antimedia.us/posts/1171685623.shtml
....by [1]a vote of 246-182, with 17 Republicans joining the Democrats
and two Democrats opposing. Here's what the gutless wimps agreed to.
Disapproving of the decision of the President announced on January
10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States
combat troops to Iraq.
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring),
That--
(1) Congress and the American people will continue to support and
protect the members of the United States Armed Forces who are
serving or who have served bravely and honorably in Iraq; and
(2) Congress disapproves of the decision of President George W.
Bush announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000
additional United States combat troops to Iraq.
Just how they plan to "protect" the members of the US Armed Forces
while abandoning Iraq isn't specified.
The two Democrats opposing were [2]Jim Marshall of Georgia and [3]Gene
Taylor of Mississippi. The seventeen Republicans abandoning the
President were [4]Mike Castle, [5]Howard Coble, [6]Tom Davis, [7]John
J Duncan, Jr., [8]Phil English, [9]Wayne Gilchrest, [10]Bob Inglis,
[11]Timothy V. Johnson, [12]Walter B. Jones, [13]Ric Keller, [14]Mark
Steven Kirk, [15]Steven C. LaTourette, [16]Ron Paul, [17]Tom Petri,
[18]Jim Ramstad, [19]Fred Upton and [20]Jim Walsh . If one of these is
your representative, be sure to let them know how you feel about their
vote.
Meanwhile, Joe Lieberman had [21]strong words for the Congressional
cowards.
Senator Lieberman closed with a call for unity, âWhatever our
differences here in this chamber, about this war, let us never
forget the values of freedom and democracy that unite us and for
which our troops have given and today give the last full measure of
their devotion. Yes, we should vigorously debate and deliberate.
That is not only our right, it is our responsibility. But at this
difficult juncture, at this moment when a real battle, a critical
battle is being waged in Baghdad, as we face a brutal enemy who
attacked us on 9/11 and wants to do it again, let us not just shout
at one another, but let us reach out to one another to find that
measure of unity that can look beyond todayâs disagreements and
secure the nationâs future and the future of all who will follow us
as Americans.â
Be sure to read everything Lieberman said. He is a lone voice of
courage in Congress. My respect for the man is higher than ever. If he
runs for President, I will register as a Democrat so I can vote for
him in the primary (and hopefully in the election as well.) (Hat tip
