The new liberal media agenda....

....is [1]to link the Minnesota bridge collapse with [2]tax increases
and/or [3]the Iraq war and [4]its supposed drain on resources.
Nowhere will you find a media "pundit" linking the bridge collapse to
Congress' decades of underfunding infrastructure in order to fund
social programs and pork barrel projects. Not one reporter will
suggest that eliminating the Department of Education would mean we
could repair every road and bridge in America in four years time. No
one would dare suggest that eliminating the Department of Housing and
Urban Development would provide the funds to replace or repair every
bridge in America in six years. Not a single media outlet will suggest
that getting our government out of [5]the pork-barrel spending game
would provide sufficient funds to repair every substandard bridge in a
ten to twelve years. (All figures from the [6]2008 Budget Summary
[pdf].)
For all of them, the answer is more taxes. Take the money from the
people and hand it over to the government. Don't let the people decide
what to do with their money. After all, the people don't make the
"right" decisions. Their betters do.
For those who argue that the media has no agenda and the claim that it
is liberal is a conservative canard, how do you explain the unanimity
of agreement on the "solution" to the "problem"? How do you explain
the fact that not one person in the media has suggested that cutting
social programs that accomplish little might be an option worth
considering?
You can't.
