If we would just leave Iraq....

....we wouldn't be [1]violating the rights of Iraqis like Abd al-Hadi
al-Iraqi.
The al-Qaeda leader who is thought to have devised the plan for the
July 7 suicide bombings in London and an array of terrorist plots
against Britain has been captured by the Americans.
Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a former major in Saddam Husseinâs army, was
apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran and was transferred
this week to the âhigh-value detainee programmeâ at Guantanamo Bay.
Abd al-Hadi was taken into CIA custody last year, it emerged from
US intelligence sources yesterday, in a move which suggests that he
was interrogated for months in a âghost prisonâ before being
transferred to the internment camp in Cuba.
Abd al-Hadi, 45, was regarded as one of al-Qaedaâs most
experienced, most intelligent and most ruthless commanders. Senior
counter-terrorism sources told The Times that he was the man who,
in 2003, identified Britain as the key battleground for exporting
al-Qaedaâs holy war to Europe.
Of course, since he was a major in Saddam's army, no way could he have
been involved with Al Qaeda because Saddam had no relationship with Al
Qaeda whatsoever. I'm sure it's just a fluke.
Odd, though, that he identified Britain as the key battleground in
2003. I thought we were illegally invading Iraq then. Shouldn't he
have been fighting in Iraq and planning strategy against us? How could
an Iraqi officer ending up getting involved with Al Qaeda when there
was a civil war to fight and an evil invader to expel?
This story has everything, doesn't it? The secret prisons. The evil
gulag in Guantanamo. But there's that pesky little detail about Al
Qaeda....how to cover this? What angle can we use?
