   ....black American [1]US Senators within five years after the civil
   war ended? Did you know that Republicans passed civil rights
   legislation in the 1870s and even amended the US Constitution to end
   segregation and ensure that blacks could vote? Did you know that 100%
   of Republicans voted for those amendments and 100% of Democrats voted
   against them? Did you know that thirteen former slaves served in the
   US Congress immediately after the war?
   Did you know that six of the nine planks in the Republican platform of
   1870 concerned ending segregation and ensuring civil and voting rights
   for black Americans? Did you know that from 1866 to 1875 a
   Republican-controlled Congress passed 19 civil rights laws? Did you
   know that in 1876 Democrats gained control of the House and no more
   civil rights laws were passed until 1964?
   Did you know that when Democrats gained control of the House, Senate
   and White House in 1982, they repealed all the civil rights laws
   passed by the Republican Congresses, ensuring that blacks would be
   discriminated against and segregated for almost 100 years more?
   Yeah, neither did I.
