This infuriates me....

....if it's true. I say "if", because it's the Associated Press and
God only knows when something they publish is really true.
A company hired to handled disaster relief on 9/11 in New York and
Washington apparently[1]stole supplies given to them by the government
to distribute -- boots for the firemen, water, t-shirts, etc. and
shipped them to another location to sell. They even had the chutzpah
to have some of the t-shirts silk-screened and then tried to sell them
back to New York fireman and police for $12.00 per shirt!
The FBI began an investigation, but during the investigation they
discovered that some FBI agents had "stolen" momentos form the
disaster sites (broken lamps with company names on them, for example),
and someone in the FBI decided they could not prosecute the company
because the FBI "thefts" would be uncovered during the trial.
Now, first of all, "stealing" some of the detritus from a disaster
site isn't a violation of any federal rules, but even if it were a
crime, it's nowhere near as serious as taking disaster relief supplies
and selling them for 100% profits on the taxpayers' backs.
Secondly, if some sort of crime was committed by the FBI agents, then
they should have been prosecuted too. What kind of twisted mind does
it take to cover up minor wrongdoing by not prosecuting a major and
craven fraud by a government contractor?
Whoever made this decision should be fired. (The executives of the
company eventually pled guilty of fraud and went to jail, and the
company is no longer in business.)
