Some curious facts have begun to emerge....

   ....[1]about Haditha.

     * The doctor who examined the bodies after the incident was an
     ardent anti-American and pro-Insurgency advocate.
     * The Reuters reporter who "broke" the story had been imprisoned by
the US 5 months prior to the "incident". Don't forget this is the
same Reuters that issued death threats against Charles Johnson.

The Reuters reporter has been arrested again. Incriminating photos
were found in his camera, and the Americans think he was working with
   the insurgents.
A CNN reporter who was embedded with the Marines that are being
investigated [2]can't believe they did it.

I know the Marines that were operating in western al Anbar, from
Husayba all the way to Haditha. I went on countless operations in
2005 up and down the Euphrates River Valley. I was pinned on
rooftops with them in Ubeydi for hours taking incoming fire, and
I've seen them not fire a shot back because they did not have
positive identification on a target. (Watch a Marine's anguish over
     deaths -- 2:12)
I saw their horror when they thought that they finally had
identified their target, fired a tank round that went through a
wall and into a house filled with civilians. They then rushed to
help the wounded -- remarkably no one was killed.
I was with them in Husayba as they went house to house in an area
where insurgents would booby-trap doors, or lie in wait behind
closed doors with an AK-47, basically on suicide missions, just
waiting for the Marines to come through and open fire. There were
civilians in the city as well, and the Marines were always keenly
aware of that fact. How they didn't fire at shadows, not knowing
what was waiting in each house, I don't know. But they didn't.
And I was with them in Haditha, a month before the alleged killings
last November of some 24 Iraqi civilians.

Today [3]the NY Times reported that the Iraqis are refusing to allow
   examinations of the bodies.

But he added that the process of matching weapons with bullets in
bodies had been delayed because families of the Iraqi victims were
     refusing to exhume the bodies.

Texas Fred is [4]smelling a setup.

This could well be the work of al-Qaida and the insurgency, they go
into a house and kill the occupants, set an ambush or plant an IED,
blast the next group of Americans coming by and haul ass out the
back door after firing a few shots so that the position with the
dead bodies draws 'fire'... And a sympathetic 'news guy' just
happens to be right there to take pictures of the butchery
committed by the 'running dog Americans'...
There ya go, made for TV propaganda, with ALL the ingredients for
anti American discourse, dead Iraqi civilians, blood everywhere,
dead women and kids, spent American shell casings, bodies riddled
with American bullets, and make NO mistake about it, the insurgency
DOES have American weapons and ammunition, how good can it get??
The crowd roars, al-Jazeera goes ORGASMIC...

There may well be a coverup in this story, but it might not be the US
Marines doing the covering up. Let's hope that the investigation is
thorough and impartial. If the Marines are guilty, fine, they need to
be tried, convicted and sentenced. But if this was a setup by
Zarqawi's people, let's pray that the investigators do their job right
   and find that out.
Considering that the terrorists were [5]beheading Haditha residents
every day, it's not much of a stretch to think they could have
perpetrated this crime deliberately, to smear the Marines as they
   sneaked out of the town.
