Greyhawk has a very revealing....

....[1]analysis of how the media is building the meme that the Marines
in the Haditha incident are guilty of murder. But there is a side
story that is building that is revealed in the comments, and I find
that side story very enlightening.
However, complete evidence will never be forthcoming, because the
Marine Corps didn't even start its investigation until four months
after the massacre. This has insured that forensic evidence will be
unavailble and has given the murderers times to coordinate their
lies. The result will be mostly acquittals, and a few wrist-slaps
of those who didn't file accurate reports.
The charge, then, is that the leadership of the Marines is corrupt and
will cover up crimes rather than prosecute them.
Regular reader Dan has leveled [2]the same charge in the comments
here.
So, the chain of command in the military concluded that the chain
of command in the military didn't know about crimes being
committed? Wow. Somehow, I'm not convinced.
So, while smiling and saying, "I support the troops", these people
believe that the leadership is corrupt and will not prosecute criminal
behavior. Their assumption is that military leaders' normal behavior
is to not thoroughly and aggressively investigate alleged crimes but
rather to cover them up.
If the Marines are murderers and their leaderhip is corrupt, then
exactly who in the the military do you support? The truth is, none of
them. For if you truly supported them, you would wait to pass judgment
until the investigation is completed, the evidence is in and verdicts
(if any) have been rendered.
Why is it assumed that there will be a coverup? Because you don't
really believe that the people investigating have any integrity. Why
are the Marines in Haditha assumed to be murderers? Because you
already consider them killers and it's no leap at all to assume that
they kill indiscriminately.
So spare me the "I support the troops but not the mission" tripe. You
may believe what you say, but I can see you're lying. Your words have
no more integrity than the accusations you level against the military
leadership and the grunts in the field.
vet isn't fooled.
