< The rules still suck.> And they always will, because they are made by
people who have not been and are not in the trenches; or have forgotten
where they came from (or want to preserve their status and rank), when they
are in position to make the rules.

.... when I read [1]this rant from a grunt in the field.

Not too long ago a unit in the city got really fucked up.
Casualties, destroyed trucks, all that shit. During that incident
there was a specific Haji who was a major catalyst in the
destruction that day but wasnt killed because of ROE. I dont know
if its because people cant bring themselves to pull the trigger.
Maybe its because people fear prosecution in an Army that seems to
have turned its back on its soldiers in its increasingly
bureaucratic way of doing business. Because I personally know
people who havent pulled the trigger out of a fear for doing jail
time I believe it to be the latter.

No, I'm not laughing about the stupid rules they have to live with,
and I think it's outrageous that men have hesitated to shoot for fear
   of prosecution.
But....I got out of the Navy more than thirty years ago, and not one
damn thing has changed. The rules still suck. The REMFs still don't
have a clue. And the beat still goes on.
I'll bet he re-enlists too. (Hat tip to [2]Greyhawk.)
